The Virginia Wind Energy Collaborative (VWEC) was formed in 2002 to promote the balanced development of wind-generated energy in Virginia. VWEC provides information and analysis relevant to utility-scale, community-based, and smaller-scale applications of wind power in Virginia. VWEC also provides a forum for collaboration among stakeholders and organizations interested in the benefits and opportunities that wind power in Virginia can provide.
VWEC is supported by the United States Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy - Energy Division. Stakeholders who participate in VWEC-sponsored activities include small businesses, utilities, non-profit organizations, wind developers, energy consultants, public officials, landowners, environmental organizations, universities, and government agencies.
The Virginia Wind Energy Collaborative recognizes the critical need for reliable power in Virginia and supports the responsible deployment of technologies that can harness our indigenous wind resources in a clean, affordable, and reliable fashion.
